Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy

Active 1974–1979 · Executed 1989

Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered young women and girls across at least seven states during the 1970s. Charismatic and intelligent, Bundy weaponized his appearance — often feigning injury or impersonating authority figures to gain the trust of his victims before attacking them. Bundy's killing spree began in Washington State in 1974, where he abducted at least eight women from college campuses and public parks before moving on to Utah, Colorado, and Idaho. After escaping custody twice — once by jumping from a courthouse window in Aspen — he fled to Florida, where he committed his most frenzied attacks, storming a Florida State University sorority house in the middle of the night and killing two women before attacking three others. Bundy was arrested for the final time in February 1978 and convicted of the Chi Omega murders and the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Kimberly Leach. He was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison on January 24, 1989. In his final days he confessed to 30 murders, though investigators believe the true number may be significantly higher. The locations below represent the verified sites connected to his decade-long reign of terror — from the Seattle neighborhood where he grew up to the Florida sorority house where his spree finally ended.

Charles Manson

Charles Manson

Active 1967–1969 · Died 2017

Charles Milles Manson was an American cult leader whose followers carried out a series of nine murders across two nights in August 1969 that shocked the nation and signaled the violent end of the 1960s counterculture. Manson himself never directly participated in the killings — instead he commanded absolute psychological control over a group of young followers known as the Manson Family, directing them to commit murder on his behalf. Manson's influence over his followers grew from a toxic blend of Beatles lyrics, apocalyptic race war prophecy, and Scientology-influenced mind control he called "Helter Skelter" — his belief that a race war was imminent and that the murders would help ignite it. On the night of August 8, 1969, Family members entered 10050 Cielo Drive in Beverly Hills and murdered five people including actress Sharon Tate, who was eight and a half months pregnant. The following night they killed Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home across town. Manson was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy in January 1971 and sentenced to death — a sentence later commuted to life imprisonment when California briefly abolished the death penalty in 1972. He was denied parole twelve times and died in prison on November 19, 2017 at the age of 83. The locations below span the full geography of the Manson Family's reign of terror — from the remote desert ranches where the Family lived to the Beverly Hills homes where they killed.

Jeffrey Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer

Active 1978–1991 · Murdered 1994

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was an American serial killer and sex offender who murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, Dahmer's crimes were distinguished by their particular horror — he drugged, strangled, dismembered, and in some cases consumed parts of his victims, preserving skulls and body parts as trophies in his apartment. Dahmer committed his first murder at age 18 at his parents' home in Bath Township, Ohio, killing hitchhiker Steven Hicks in 1978. After a period of relative calm he resumed killing in 1987, luring victims to his grandmother's West Allis home before eventually moving to the Oxford Apartments in Milwaukee where he committed the majority of his crimes. His killing spree came to an end on July 22, 1991 when victim Tracy Edwards escaped from Dahmer's apartment and flagged down police. Officers entered Apartment 213 and discovered evidence of Dahmer's crimes — including decomposing body parts, skulls, and photographs of his victims at various stages of dismemberment. Dahmer was convicted of 15 counts of murder in 1992 and sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms. He was beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver at the Columbia Correctional Institution on November 28, 1994.
