David Parker Ray is an American serial killer who kidnapped, tortured, and murdered women in the Elephant Butte area of New Mexico. Especially sadistic, Ray had a trailer the he soundproofed which he called his "toy box". Inside the trailer, Ray had a dentist's chair which he had modified to have arm and leg straps. He had an extensive amount of sex toys and torture devices inside the trailer which he would use against his victims, often keeping them inside the trailer for months at a time.
Ray would capture his victims by drugging their drinks at a local watering hole, then knocking them unconscious. They would then regain consciousness inside of his trailer where they would be unable to escape from his sadistic plans. He would rape and torture his victims, sometimes with accomplices including his own daughter. When he left his victims alone in the trailer it was common for him to play a voice recording of himself talking about more torture techniques he was going to use on the women, so that even when he was not around he was still inflicting fear in the women. It was also common for Ray to video tape himself torturing the women. He allowed several women to leave the "toy box", but administered a dose of toxins that would cause amnesia and cause what they did remember to be dream-like in their recollection.
On March 19, 1999, Ray had kidnapped a woman named Cynthia Vigil after posing as a police officer. After 3 days in captivity, Vigil was able to escape the trailer and was found by a nearby homeowner who contacted the police. Ray and several accomplices, Cindy Hendy, Dennis Yancy, and Ray's daughter Glenda Jean "Jesse" Ray were all eventually arrested and charged with various crimes though Dennis Yancy was the only one to be charged with murder in the death of one of his previous girlfriends. After the arrests, several other victims were discovered through the video recordings, and were able to be located alive.
In 1999 Dennis Roy Yancy was convicted of 2nd degree murder and will remain in custody until 2021. In 2000 Cindy Hendy was sentenced to 36 years in prison but was released on parole in 2019. In 2001 Ray was sentenced to 224 years in prison for various crimes including kidnapping and torture. Glenda Jean "Jesse" Ray was sentenced to 2 years in prison and 5 years probation for her role in the crimes.
